چکیده

Objective: To analyze factors associated with the occurrence of Adverse Events (AE) related to Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) in Newborns (NB). Method: cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study, carried out Neonatal Intensive Care Unit a reference hospital, from January March 2019. The sample consisted 225 PICCs. AEs was considered as an outcome, hierarchical variables were explanatory: distal (sociodemographic) proximal (NB clinics). Wald's chi-square used for initial selection (p<0.20) Poisson regression, robust variance, model adjustment (p<0.05). t test compare mean AE insertion PICC, at 5% level. In final model, site, scalp vein (p<0.001), reason removal (p<0.001) PICC significant AE. Comparing averages between occurrences non-occurrences AEs, it verified that only weight NBs (p=0.002), due prematurity. Conclusion: are inadequate management maintenance choice vein.

complications involving central venous catheter insertion in newborns admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (nicu)

conclusions most of the catheter-related deaths were due to severe sepsis and hemothorax, and a significant relationship was noted between infection and both the mortality rate and catheterization duration. a significant relationship was also evident between birth weight and infection rates. background developments in the use of central venous catheters have improved the treatment of critically...

Complication rates among peripherally inserted central venous catheters and centrally inserted central catheters in the medical intensive care unit.

PURPOSE There are limited contemporary data describing the rates of catheter-related deep vein thrombosis (CRDVT) and central line-associated bloodstream infection for peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICCs) and centrally inserted central venous catheters (CICCs) in the medical intensive care unit (ICU). METHODS We performed a retrospective cohort study of 200 PICCs (dual/tripl...

Heparin for clearance of peripherally inserted central venous catheter in newborns: an in vitro study

OBJECTIVE To compare the efficacy of two concentrations of heparin to clear the lumen of in vitro clotted neonatal peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). METHODS This is an in vitro, experimental quantitative study of 76 neonatal 2.0Fr PICCs coagulated in vitro. The catheters were divided into two groups of 38 PICCs each. In both groups an infusion of low molecular weight heparin wa...

Correction After the publication of this abstract [1], we found some mistakes in the text. In details: Introduction section: the correct sentence is “The aim of our study was to assess the rate of complications (deep venous thrombosis, DVT; infections) in patients discharged from Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a PICC or a ST-CVC.” Methods section: the study period is “Jan 2008 to Aug 2008”. Peripherally inserted central venous catheter-associated complications exert negative effects on body weight gain in neonatal intensive care units.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The placement of a peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) is an essential procedure in neonatal intensive care units (NICU). The aim of this study was to determine the risk of PICC complications in NICU, and further identify the effects of PICC complications on body weight gain in premature infants. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN A total of 304 premature infa...
